Many people in the United States have used dial-up internet for years. For some time it was the only way to connect to the web. However, high-speed internet, also known as broadband internet, has been available for a while now. It’s possible to get a high-speed connection using cable, DSL, or satellite internet. The question is whether or not an upgrade to broadband is worth it.

Being able to get online with dial-up is great, but it certainly has its drawbacks. It ties up a phone line, which can be a huge inconvenience. Picking up a receiver can disconnect the computer during an important internet session; being online can cause you to miss an important telephone call. The other major drawback is the speed. Using dial-up internet can make downloading even a small image or video a tedious and lengthy process. As everything on the web becomes more multimedia oriented it can make using the web with a dial-up connection impossible.

Everything seems to work fine in this regard, though you will end up getting into some tech concerns when you sign up for satellite internet, whether you like it or not. Here is a simple version of what you will face.

The interior nuts and bolts: Most of all, people want to know what will change about their daily use of the internet when they get satellite broadband, from the equipment they must attach to their computers to the objects they might have to work around. On this level, you shouldn’t fret what will lay in store for you. The modem you may have had or not had with dialup service will be replaced by another for satellite internet service. Otherwise, the things you have gotten used to doing – checking your email, using favorite websites and so forth – won’t be changed in the slightest.

Satellite Radio coming to a car or SUV soon near you? If you do not have satellite radio yet you are missing out on one of the greatest consumer technologies of all times. Sirius Radio has it going on with 200-channels of every type of music you could possibly ever think of along with news, weather and sports. And soon Shock Jock Howard Sterns will be coming at you live from the Heavens, a place you know he will never get to visit in the after life!

What makes Sirius so good, why should you get it in you car? Well, have you ever noticed the person next to you singing away in their car, happy as a lark, so you flip through the channels to see if you can find which song their lips are moving to? Ever done that before? Sure you have, but have you noticed lately you cannot seem to find the station they are on? Do you know why? Because they are not listening to the local boring stations, they are listening to Satellite Radio, with many stations having no commercials, just solid music playing in the era and venue of your choosing.

GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It is a satellite radio navigation system built by the United States Department of Defense. Research on the system began in the 60′s and the first GPS satellite was launched in 1978. It took a while for the entire system to come online but finally on April 27, 1995 it became fully operational. At first, the GPS network was only for military use but in the 80′s the United States government authorized the general public to make use of it too.
